Email Marketing- In the light of common sense!

Email Marketing

Are you surprised to see the newer and less costly methods of marketing being used by your competitors? Guess what, even you can be benefitting from such activities, one of which is email marketing.

It is not just crafting a mail and shooting it to a list of people. Even a deftly crafted email is of no use when used without aided by other marketing strategies. The two combined appropriately can leave a major impact on the present and potential customers.

But, before the big words like strategy seem to overwhelm, there is a lot more understanding needed. For email marketing to make an impact (in statistical terms of opening of the mail, number of clicks, etc which translates in to sales), following are great starters.

Creating credible mailing list

First thing is first- build a worthy email list of the current as well as potential customers who happen to like something of your business. Reaching to current customers and through them to their friends and colleagues is the way to start. This saves time and efforts because people would already have known you, thanks to the world of mouth. Networking evens and signups through your website is a sure method to reach people and get their email ids. Collecting ids of complete strangers to your product or service will be costlier.

Working on the reader-preferable changes

Next on the list is making fresh changes in the email content and design. This will introduce newer feel to mere body of words and urge the readers to go ahead on open the mail that is resting in the inbox. Changes could be in terms of images, the way mail copy is written, de-cluttering, etc.Doing this might inspire the readers to take see the old things in the new light. Make sure you engage them through platforms like FB, Twitter, etc, and let them feel free to comment on the new look. Surveys can give a great insight about what readers have on their mind.

Making readers feel welcomed reading your email

The most basic way to achieve this objective is by leaving ‘stuffing’ out of the email copy. The most dangerous of times when stuffing can hurt most is during holidays. Of course, you wish your customers; tell them about the discounts you are giving; the latest collection you have added to the product catalogue; and all the other things of importance. However, tell only as much as they can pay attention to. If the number of things to tell seems more, telling in different emails is a great idea. And yes, do not forget to personalize. This way, chances of getting them read is greater.

Getting done what is needed even if you think it’s too late

It’s an old saying- “Never say never”. If you attempted something that is not liked by the readers, or worse you didn’t believe in employing a technology or strategy that has great promises, the loss could be covered up. It may be by employing a newer approach or newer template or installing new software and the lot of efforts will be needed, but don’t just think it’s not your cup of tea. Be ready to exploit any move that can rejuvenate your email marketing.

Of course, all the above talk is plain common sense, but don’t let anyone have a chance to say- “Common sense is not so common”!
